Netflix & Skill: A Fun Weekend Guide to Personal Development

How many of us create a lineup of courses we’ll take, books we’ll read, and resources we’ll take advantage of, weekend after weekend but just never get to it? After a long, hard week of commuting to work, punching in numbers, designing pitch decks and creating sales strategies, all your mind whispers to you on the weekend is, “All work and no play makes (insert your name) a dull boy/girl.” So, you indulge in your mind’s craving for sleep and play.

Rest is important, without doubt. But it’s also important to strike a balance between rest and disciplining your way to personal advancement. This is where I come in as your digital godmother*.

You’d want to fasten your seatbelt for this one because we’re about to embark on a journey to the ultimate weekend adventure. Forget about “Netflix & Chill”; it’s time for “Netflix & Skill”! We’re turning your lazy Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons into a personal development fiesta.

Whoever Said You Can’t Mix Learning with Pleasure?

I see you. I know what you’re going to do. It’s nothing new. You’ve done this weekend after weekend. You’re going to lull around in your PJs this Saturday morning, debating between tapping and scrolling through social media endlessly or catching up on seasons of your favourite show. I got it right, didn’t I?

I’m not judging, everyone’s been there. What if I told you, it could be different? What if I told you that you could seize the day, charge up your inner self and switch your binge-watching sessions into skill-building sessions. You could even reward yourself with an hour of Netflix after an hour or two of study. That’s why I call it “Netflix & Skill”. Who says your weekend can’t be both fun and educational? Cue the confetti! 🎊

The Ultimate Netflix & Skill Starter Pack

The Netflix & Skill Game Plan

First things first, you need a game plan. Pick a skill you’ve been itching to acquire. Maybe it’s a new language, social media mastery, or even the art of making friends (shots fired, introverts). It’s best if you’ve already decided what it’s going to be by Friday. Whatever skill you choose, make it exciting, something you really love so you don’t wade off into the sleep zone in the first five minutes.

The Netflix & Skill Toolkit

Now, you need the tools of the trade. Grab your laptop, tablet, smartphone or that book you bought several months (or years) ago but never got to complete. It’s time to load up on some valuable resources. There are countless online courses, tutorials, and eBooks waiting for you to explore. On Certifications by Unify, there’s an array of courses artfully designed by industry experts to put you ahead in your career and personal endeavours.

Not to forget, you need a pen and notebook for scribbling notes, especially if you prefer the old skool way- notebooks in place of notepads. You could even name it, “My Netflix & Skill Journal”. I daresay for journal lovers, that’s enough motivation already.

The Netflix & Skill Snack Pack

This is all too important! Who goes on an adventure without a stack of their favourite foods and snacks? My personal favourite is Munch It. What’s yours? A nice cool drink to gulp when the lesson’s getting a little heated would do the trick too.

I have a sense of nostalgia as I recall what learning was like as a kid. My younger sister and I were such bibliophiles. We had novels for breakfast, newspapers for lunch, and schoolbooks for dinner. Quite often, we’d even keep study vigils. What nerds we were!

There were nights when our mum would urge us to go back to bed, and there were other nights when she would prepare a table before us. The night she brought eba and afang soup* before us was epic! 😅 Those were our favourite nights. Those meals served as fuel to absorb all our newfound wisdom. Think of the snack pack as your secret weapon against educational sapa*

The Netflix & Skill Relax Mode

A Netflix & Skill weekend doesn’t mean locking yourself in your room for 48 hours straight, just being nothing but an Einstein. If you’ve dedicated 2 hours to study, you can take breaks at every 5 or 10-minute interval. You’re the boss in the Netflix & Skill world. Be yourself.

Sing out loud if you want to. Dance like nobody’s watching you, really no one is. Ponder the beauty of nature. Whatever you please, it’s your unique journey, so make it as fun and quirky as you like.

Wrapping it up!

As the weekend winds down, you’d be amazed at how much you’ve learned and would be grateful that you took that trip up educational lane. Revel in the knowledge you’ve acquired. On Monday, flex your knowledge and impress your boss by answering questions raised in that meeting you used to dread.

I told you this was going to be one heaven of an amazing ride, didn’t I?

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be off to draw a plan for courses I’ll be taking on Certifications by Unify What do you say? Are you joining me this weekend in the Netflix & Skill ride?

Really, I want to know what you think. I’ll be looking out for your thoughts in the comments section. Adios Amigo!
